The NETS-T standards that I chose to focus on were:
1.to promote student reflection
using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual
understanding and thinking, planning, and create process.
2. to collaborate with students,
peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to
support student success and innovation.
Resources Needed:
I will need
to set up my classroom blog. I will need student computers and access to the
internet. I already have these things so that will not be a problem. I will also need a remind 101 account and a
Facebook page.
I will not
need any additional information. I think that I have everything I need in order
to get these things all up and running.
Steps Taken so Far:
I have
already created accounts with Remind 101 and sent out the flyers to get my
parents signed up to receive my classroom texts. I have also set up a classroom
Facebook page. I have sent a note home about this and parents and students have
already started adding the account.
Students already have their own laptops and access to the internet while
at school.
Sounds like you are up to a great start. Is this your first time integrating blogs in the curriculum? If so, how do you utilize it in your classroom? Facebook seems like a great way to communicate with parents because almost everyone has a Facebook account. I wonder if I could get more parents on Facebook than I did with asking them to download the Class Dojo app.Students already having their own laptops is very helpful with the goal of integrating technology because you do not have to wait for your turn to use them. We will get there one year :).
ReplyDeleteYou mention that you are planning on starting a class blog. What blog site are you thinking of using? I am experimenting with kidblog that I learned about in a previous class and I am very excited to see how the students utilize this tool.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your post,
Kat
I have used remind101 in the past with my kindergarten student's parents and it worked well. I liked the fact that I could send out a text message whenever or where ever from either my phone or computer to the parents. I also liked that it wasn't my phone number that was used and that parents only had the remind101 number. I decided to go the Class DoJo route this year since the messaging component was added to the program.
